Proton beam therapy for children and adolescents and young adults (AYAs): JASTRO and JSPHO Guidelines

Children and adolescents young adults (AYAs) with cancer are often treated a multidisciplinary approach. This includes use of radiotherapy, which is important for local control, but may also cause adverse events in the long term, including second cancer. The risks limited growth development, endocrine dysfunction, reduced fertility children AYAs by proton beam therapy (PBT), has dose distribution that decreases irradiation normal organs while still targeting tumor. To define outcomes characteristics PBT treatment pediatric AYA patients, this document was developed Japanese Society Radiation Oncology (JASTRO) Pediatric Hematology/Oncology (JSPHO).
